See how it is actually made
Master Zhijian’s carving and painting process is continuously documented through live broadcasts and temple updates.
Express a wish for meaningful love and mutual affection with this Yue Lao seal print. At approximately 6 × 9 cm, the small artwork can be displayed on a desk or bedside table, or kept as a personal keepsake and a daily reminder to cherish companionship.
Iconography and Composition
A high topknot, long eyebrows and flowing beard give Yue Lao the warm, composed presence of an elder. Holding a staff in one hand and a book in the other, his serene figure offers an image through which to express hopes for meaningful love and companionship.
Red lines stand against a golden ground, with changing densities in the hair, beard and flowing robes. The staff and hanging cords create a vertical rhythm, while the angled book guides the eye between the face, hands and book.
The Old Man Under the Moon
In the Tang dynasty tale Ding Hun Dian, Wei Gu meets an elder beneath the moon who oversees marital bonds. In the tradition of Yue Lao, red threads and a register of marriages symbolize destined connections. The book in this image can be read as an echo of that cultural tradition.
A Wish for Mutual Care
May those seeking love meet someone with whom care and affection are mutual. May those already sharing a life find greater understanding and patience. This work gives form to a wish for harmony and companionship, and a reminder to nurture cherished relationships with sincerity, respect and everyday care.
Cinnabar Impressions and Gold Inscription
Master Zhijian first carves the image, then each print is impressed by hand in cinnabar. Fine lines describe the hair, face and robes, with a sacred inscription written in 24K pure gold on the front. The gilded paper and gold brushwork catch the light naturally. A protective laminate helps preserve the surface during everyday handling.
A Handwritten Talisman on the Reverse
A Gaogong Daoist ritual master writes the talisman on the reverse by hand. This edition includes a 30-day blessing process. The image and talisman are on opposite sides of the same print; brushwork, pigment density and fine details retain natural handmade variation.

Accessories and Everyday Use
The 5-inch walnut frame has an acrylic front, an inner opening of approximately 8.9 × 12.7 cm and outer dimensions of 13.7 × 10.6 × 3.5 cm. Use it for tabletop display, or keep the print in the included 3.5-inch acrylic holder. To place the print behind a clear phone case, first check the phone and case dimensions and fit. Phones and other scene props are not included.
Care and Handmade Variation
The laminate helps reduce wear from ordinary contact, friction and light moisture. Avoid immersion, bending, sharp objects and prolonged direct sunlight. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Pigment density, printed edges, paper texture and gold brushwork vary naturally. Lighting and screens can also affect the appearance of color.
Packaging and Cultural Context
Protective packaging may vary by batch. References to Yue Lao and talismans describe cultural and devotional traditions. They do not guarantee romantic outcomes, reconciliation, marriage or any other personal result.
From carving to image formation|How a seal impression is made
01|Hand-engraved Plate
Master Zhijian follows the original iconographic method, carving line by line to complete the deity image woodblock. The details, lines, and composition of the image all take shape at this stage.
02|Whitespace Arrangement
After the carving is complete, tidy up the negative space, outlines, and fine lines so the plate remains clear and intact before printing.
03|Cinnabar Handmade Rubbing
Each sheet is hand-rubbed with cinnabar ink. Because there are subtle differences in each application of ink, the pressure used, and the condition of the paper, every finished piece retains the natural marks of handcrafting.
Seal carving 04 | 24K pure gold taboo character
Once the cinnabar seal impression is complete, the deity’s sacred name is then hand-inscribed on the front in 24K pure gold, creating the final front-side detail.
05|Handwritten rune on the back
The talisman script on the back of the finished piece is hand-written by Master Gaogong using traditional methods, not printed.
