Introduction to the Deity
Zhenwu the Great Emperor, also known as the Emperor of the Mysterious Heaven, is one of the most important northern deities and protector gods in Daoism. From the Song and Yuan dynasties onward, belief in Zhenwu spread especially far and wide, and is often associated with the north, Xuanwu, protection, and cultivation.
Statues and Works
Loose hair, bare feet, a sword in hand, and the tortoise and snake joined together are among the most recognizable elements of Zhenwu iconography.
This piece is re-composed by Master Zhijian on the basis of traditional iconographic elements, and hand-painted one by one in the style of meticulous heavy-color painting. It uses natural mineral pigments, with handmade gold detailing to finish the crown ornaments, robe patterns, ritual implements, and selected details, so each piece will naturally differ in linework, color, and gold texture.
Production Process
Sketching in fine linework → Layered color application → Detailed refinement → Hand-applied gold finishing. This is not printed, transferred, or mass-produced.
Offering and Shipping
After completion, the work is sent to a partner temple for 30 days of enshrinement, then protective packaging is applied and it is shipped. Because each piece is hand-painted, production time and scheduling will vary depending on the complexity of the work and the current order volume.
Wear and Display
It may be worn or displayed according to personal religious practice, and can also be collected as a small traditional Chinese deity artwork. Avoid prolonged soaking, high humidity, alcohol, and direct contact with chemical cleaners on the painted surface.
