Deity Introduction

Great Emperor Taiyi, the Saviour from Suffering, also commonly known as the Eastern Extreme Azure Radiance Great Emperor, is an important revered deity in Daoist traditions of relieving suffering and guiding the deceased. Related beliefs are often seen in rituals for the departed, memorial observances, and salvation rites.

Iconography and Works

The nine-headed lion, Azure Radiance imagery, and salvation implements are common iconographic elements in later depictions, and the overall character combines dignity with compassion.

This piece was re-composed by Master Zhijian based on traditional iconographic elements, and hand-painted piece by piece in the gongbi heavy-color style. The work uses natural mineral pigments, with handcrafted gold detailing used to finish the crown ornaments, robe patterns, ritual implements, and partial details. As a result, each piece will naturally differ in linework, color, and golden texture.

Production Process

Initial line drawing → layered color application → refined detailing → handcrafted gold finishing. It is not printed, transferred, or mass-produced.

Offering and Shipping

After the work is completed, it is sent to a partnered temple for offering for 30 days according to the current process, and then protected packaging is applied before shipment. Because each piece is hand-painted, production time and scheduling will vary depending on the complexity of the work and the current order volume.

Wear and Display

It may be worn or displayed according to personal religious practice, and can also be collected as a small traditional Chinese deity figure. Avoid prolonged soaking in water, high humidity, alcohol, and direct contact with chemical cleaners.
