Medicine King Sun Simiao | Original Hand-Painted Taoist Deity Amulet

Introduction to the Deity

Sun Simiao was a renowned physician of the Tang dynasty and was later revered as the "Medicine King." His medical writings and reputation for placing great importance on medical ethics have given him lasting influence in medicine, Daoism, and folk belief.

Iconography and Work

Medicine King images in later periods are often accompanied by elements such as a medicine pouch, herbs, medical implements, or a tiger. Medical legends associated with Sun Simiao helped shape the visual form seen today.

This piece was re-composed by Daoist master Zhijian based on traditional iconographic elements, and hand-painted one piece at a time in the gongbi fine-color style. It uses natural mineral pigments, with the crown ornament, robe patterns, ritual implements, and partial details finished by hand-gilding. As a result, each piece will have natural variations in linework, color, and gold texture.

Production Process

Sketching in ink outline → layer-by-layer coloring → detailed refinement → hand-gilded finishing. This is not printed, transferred, or mass-produced.

Enshrinement and Shipping

After the work is completed, it is sent to a partner Daoist temple for 30 days of enshrinement, then protected packaging and shipping follow. Because each piece is hand-painted individually, production and scheduling will vary depending on the complexity of the work and current order volume.

Wear and Display

May be worn or displayed according to personal religious practice, and can also be collected as a small traditional Chinese deity figure. Avoid prolonged soaking, high humidity, and direct contact with alcohol or chemical cleaning agents on the painted surface.
