Introduction to the Deity
Dongwang Gong / Donghua Dijun is an important deity in Chinese xian-zhen belief, often paired with Xiwangmu in later tradition, and understood as the patriarch of male immortals. He also holds an important position in the Quanzhen Daoist lineage of patriarchs.
Images and Work
Imperial robes, Daoist robes of the immortals, a whisk, or a precious sword are common visual elements in later tradition; depictions vary across different lineages and are not entirely consistent.
This piece was re-composed by Zhi Jian Daozhang based on traditional iconographic elements and hand-painted one by one in the gongbi heavy-color style. It uses natural mineral pigments, with gold details finished by hand on the headdress, robe patterns, ritual implements, and selected details. As a result, each piece will have natural variations in linework, color, and golden texture.
Production Process
Outline sketching → layered coloring → detailed refinement → hand-applied gold finishing. This is not printed, transferred, or mass-produced.
Offering and Shipping
After completion, the work is sent to a cooperating temple for 30 days of enshrinement according to the current process, and then packaged for protection and shipped. Because each piece is hand-painted individually, production time and scheduling will vary depending on the complexity of the work and the current order volume.
Wear and Display
It may be worn or displayed according to personal religious practice, and can also be collected as a small traditional Chinese deity figure artwork. Avoid prolonged soaking, high humidity, and direct contact with alcohol or chemical cleaners.
